Wiring Harness : A wiring harness on an automobile is a vital electronically component that connects all the electrical sensors, switches, computers, devices and other electronics together. It is composed of multiple wires and or fiber optic cables running together and usually has electrical tape, wrap or plastic shielding to keep the wires neat and protected. Wiring harnesses have limited flexibility and are mostly stationary clipped to the structures of the car, truck, van or suv. Vehicles will have at lease one wiring harness however it is most likely to have many wiring harnesses connected together for different areas or computer systems of the vehicle.
Problems with a wiring harness are difficult to describe. Most problems on wiring harnesses include electric devices gone bad causing smoke from within the vehicle, oil or other fluids saturating wiring causing the plastic to dissolve and wires to touch, computers unable to communicate to each other, water damage such as flood damage, unexplained problems with electronics within a vehicle, replacement parts not repairing the vehicle, damage reoccurring to electrical parts after replacement, and many other strange electric problems.
It takes a very qualified mechanic to isolate / determine wiring harness problems or replace a wiring harness. Some wiring harnesses require removal of the entire dash board and interior.
