VARIABLE CAMS
Variable Cams : Camshafts that can rotate in which mechanical timing can be advanced or retarded are called variable cams. Variable cams use oil pressure to advance the cams and have a solenoid that retards them by relieving the oil pressure from the variable cam sprockets. Some variable camshafts us centrifugal force to actuate and de-actuate the variable features.
Not all engines use variable cams. Variable cams can help increase power and fuel economy. Variable cam problems can cause weird running conditions. Usually an engine lamp will illuminate when a variable cam problem is detected. A solenoid, sprocket, cam sensor, wiring harness or computer is the most common problems with the variable cams.
