Theft Module : A theft module is part of your vehicle’s anti-theft system. This is the computer for your anti-theft. Depending on the vehicle make and model, a theft module typically controls the immobilizer functions allowing the vehicle to start if the proper key is being used. If the vehicle is trying to be started without the key, the engine computer will not receive the correct anti-theft signal and this will not allow the engine to fire up.
Determining when a theft module fails can be tricky. Most repair shops do not have the right equipment to properly diagnose and repair the theft module problems. Computer programming is usually required when replacing the theft module or other components of the theft system.
Theft modules read the key pellet, chip in the key and or the cylinder lock to determine if the vehicle should be started. If the signal is not correct a theft system code usually sets.
