NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH
Neutral Safety Switch : A switch that determines whether or not a vehicle is in the neutral or park positions on automatic or cvt style transmissions. Most neutral safety switches are located on or in the transmission. Some manufacturers may put it on the shifter assembly. Its primary purpose is to let the computer, relay or starter know it is ok to start. Without this switch, a vehicle would start in gear and would immediately move when started in gear.
Neutral safety switches may malfunction causing a no start situation in most cases. Some neutral safety switches also tell the computer which gear is being selected such as Park, Reverse, Neutral or Drive(s). Other neutral safety switch problems may cause a transmission to go into fail safe mode.
