Manual Transmission : Also referred to as a standard transmission, a transmission on a car, truck, van or suv that must be shifted manually by the driver. These transmissions use a gear shifter with a foot clutch to disengage the engine from the transmission. The clutch is bolted to the flywheel and uses a clutch cable or hydraulics including a clutch slave and a clutch master to disengage the clutch. The gears are shifted using the gear shifter which moves the shift forks on the shift shafts. The shift forks push the synchronizers into the gears which apply the desired gears by the driver.
Manual transmissions can break or have transmission problems. Popping out of gear, gear grinding, bearing noises and clutch problems are typical types of manual transmission problems. Other types of manual transmission problems may include input seal, output seal, case or cover gasket leaks. Manual transmissions have only a few electrical parts such as a reverse sensor or a neutral sensor.
