Input Sensor : A sensor used on a transmission for the input speed. The input shaft is spun by the engine in a transmission. The input sensor tells the computer the exact speed. The computer uses this signal with the output sensor to determine the gear ratio of the desired gear being applied.
When an input sensor is faulty, a check engine / transmission light may come on. Your transmission may not shift properly or at all. Some transmissions will go into a fail-safe mode keeping the transmission in 2nd, 3rd or 4th gear all of the time. Driving the vehicle in this state will ultimately cause further damage to the transmission and can cause it to fail altogether.
Computer diagnostics are used to determine if the computer has a input speed sensor code. A automotive scope can also be used to check the signal of the input sensor or input speed sensor.
Guy’s Automotive can diagnose transmission problems including the input sensor. Schedule your appointment today with Guy’s Automotive for all of your transmission or other auto repair needs.
