Ignition Switch : The ignition switch has 2 parts. The mechanical ignition switch uses the key to turn the switch through the off, run, start and accessory positions. The electrical ignition switch connects the power to various systems of the vehicle to turn on the accessories, engine or starter. The mechanical ignition switch uses lock tumblers coded to the ignition switch to allow it to turn or not.
Ignition switch failures may cause the car to not run, cause some electronics to not work, keep the starter from engaging or not turn off the car, truck, van or suv. Electrical ignition switch failures usually can be checked using a test light. Mechanical failures require ignition switch replacement.
