Door Latch : This mechanical mechanism holds the door on a vehicle closed. The door latch serves 2 main purposes. Holding and releasing the door closed is the primary function. Door handles inside and outside are linked up to the door latch to release the door when you want to open the door. When the door is closed, the door latch will hold the door closed or latch shut. The second function of the door latch is the door lock mechanism. When the door is locked either by manually locking the door, using the key, key fob or power lock switch, the door latch is in a locked position. When the locked position is in place on a door latch, the door handles are inoperatible. Some rear doors also use a child safety function making the inside handles inoperatible.
Door latch problems can occur on your vehicle. The symptoms of a failed door latch can be the door won’t close, door won’t open, the door is jammed, door switches or a failed power lock actuator within the door latch or a latch will not lock. For safety and security reasons, a door latch must be replaced when ever you have a problem with it. Guy’s Automotive can replace your broken door latch, just make an appointment today.
