Crash Sensor : High tech sensors that are strategically designed to tell the air bag / safety restraint system (srs) computer that a crash has taken place and this signal will help trigger the airbags in a fraction of a second. Crash sensors are located in specific areas and also help determine the angle of impact. The angle of impact may help determine which airbags need to deploy such as side airbags, frontal airbags, pretension and airbag curtains. If the accident impact is not significant enough, the crash sensors do not send the signal to deploy the airbags.
After a collision, airbag sensors that were involved in the deployment of the airbags must be replaced. The airbag sensor replacement can be determined by manufacturer data interpreted by the auto body mechanic. Airbag sensors are also checked by the airbag / safety restraint (srs) computer and will cause a computer code to be flagged in the computer. The airbag lamp will illuminate when there is a crash sensor code stored. Special diagnostic equipment is used to pinpoint the faulty airbag sensor.
