COOLANT TEMPURATURE SENSOR
Coolant Temperature Sensor : These sensors are designed to send a signal for the coolant temperature. Usually the coolant temperature sensor will be a relative signal to several computers on a vehicle. Engine computers rely on the coolant temperature sensor for accurate temperature readings of the engine coolant temperature. Other computers that use a coolant temperature sensor may include an instrument cluster or a body computer. Some other systems may use the signal from the coolant temperature sensor to show the driver the temperature of their engine so they can avoid overheating their engine.
Coolant temperature sensors are designed with a wax and other electrical components to change a resistance value that is necessary for the computer to interpret. When the coolant temperature sensor fails, you may see a check engine light illuminate. The engine may run very rich without a coolant temperature sensor signal. Coolant fans may not operate at the correct times, or the temperature gauge may not read accurately.
