Coolant Sensor : These sensors are designed to send a signal for the coolant temperature. Usually the coolant sensor will be a relative signal to a computer or different computers on a vehicle. Engine computers rely on the coolant sensor for accurate temperature signals of the engine temperature. Other computers may include an instrument cluster or a body computer. Some other systems may use the signal from the coolant sensor to show the driver the temperature of their engine so they can avoid overheating their engine.
Coolant sensors are made with a wax and other electrical components to change a resistance value for a computer to interpret. When the coolant sensor fails, you may see a check engine lamp illuminate. The engine can run very rich without a coolant sensor. Coolant fans may not operate properly or the temperature gauge may not read properly. Simply make an appointment and get your coolant sensor checked at Guy’s Automotive today.
