Coolant Hose : One of many hoses on your car, truck, van or suv that help distribute coolant throughout the vital areas of your engine. Coolant hoses are made of a flexible rubber that is durable enough to hold the pressure and the heat of the coolant. Hoses also allow the engine some flexibility so that coolant can still flow when the engine flexes. Coolant hoses are usually specially formed rubber hoses that are specificly designed for the particular application and vehicle make. A coolant hose can go bad as the rubber gets old and soft or cracked. Early warning signs are visual and may include swollen areas or softer than normal areas on the hoses. When a coolant hose goes bad, it can split and coolant can just gush out in seconds causing a rapid overheating situation, or a small pinhole size leak that may be hardly noticable. Coolant hose problems should not be ignored and coolant hoses should be inspected during routine maintenence by your mechanic.
